Celebrating Our Heritage: What Hispanic Heritage Month Means to Modern Mexico

Every year, from September 15 to October 15, the United States celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. It starts right as several Central American countries mark their independence, and a day later Mexico joins in with El Grito. For us, at Modern Mexico, it's not just a date, it's honestly every day of our story.

A heritage that's lived, not just commemorated

Talking about Hispanic heritage means talking about my grandmother teaching me to make tortillas by hand, about the clay an artisan in Oaxaca shapes with techniques passed down from their father, about a rebozo woven on a backstrap loom carrying history in every pattern. Every time we share something from our culture, a recipe, a word, a handmade object, we keep that heritage alive. And that's what we want to do with you this month.

How we're celebrating at Modern Mexico

We're using this month to show off the work of the artisans and producers we partner with. Every product tells a story.

From our crafts

Hand-carved wooden owl alebrije with vibrant traditional Oaxacan folk art patterns

From our food and drink selection

Handmade ceramic mezcal cups (mezcaleros) with traditional Mexican pottery glaze

From our clothing and textiles

Handwoven huipil with traditional crab embroidery motif, Mexican folk textile

An invitation, not just a sale

When you buy from us this month, you're taking home the work of real hands and a piece of a culture that deserves to be told with pride, all year long.

Thank you for celebrating with us. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month. 🇲🇽
