Alma del Venado Sculpture
Description
In Wixárika (Huichol) tradition, the deer is sacred — Kauyumari, the Blue Deer: the spirit guide who walks between the human world and the divine, leading the way to wisdom, healing, and the heart of things. To the Huichol, the deer is teacher and messenger, woven into the same sacred story as corn and the sun.
Alma del Venado — “soul of the deer” — carries that reverence into your home. Each deer head is hand-carved from guamuchil wood, then dressed strand by strand in naturally dyed thread pressed into warm Campeche wax, the same devotional technique Huichol artists have practiced for generations. Every line is a small act of patience, so no two pieces are ever alike.
Mounted as a bold wall sculpture, it brings more than color and craft to an entryway, living room, or gallery wall — it carries a story of guidance, connection, and the quiet soul that moves through all living things.
